10 Tire Safety Tips
Ten car tire safety things that you can do today to ensure your safety on the road.
1. Choose your tires carefully - Tire selection should be based on the correct size recommended for the vehicle and its loading recommendations. It is highly recommended that you consult a knowledgeable tire source in order to choose the best tire for your driving patterns.
2. Buy a tire gauge - Stay informed about the amount of air that is in tires at all times.
3. Slow down when driving in wet weather
4. Always inspect and measure your tire tread. You can do this yourself by placing a penny in the tread groove and if you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, then it is time to replace your tires.
5. Your vehicle alignment should be checked often
6. Check the tire pressure once a month, and always before a long trip - Always use the manufacturer’s recommended air pressure listed on the sticker of your vehicle’s owner’s manual as a guide.
7. Have your tire balance checked periodically - Unbalanced wheels and tires can cause irregular wear.
8. Your tires should be rotated every 6k (6,000) miles
9. Check for gouges, cuts, bulges or other irregularities in your tire sidewalls
10. Try not to overload your car, it may create excessive heat inside your tires - Overloading your car places stress on your tires which can lead to tire failure. Check the manufacturer’s loading recommendation in the vehicle owner's manual.
